The World Cup Changed My Life
“I was overtaken with joy.”
The World Cup changed my life.
I am not a sports girl. Or at least – I wasn’t. However, I am a good vibes girl. Where there are good vibes, I will most likely follow.
In this case, that happened. But I’m not sure if I followed the vibe, or they followed me.
Things that changed during the World Cup in my life:
1. My confidence increased. I became obsessed with not just watching the games, but talking to the people who were near me. There was a superpower that I discovered, that if we just talk to the people around us, they’ll talk back. The confidence-booster that this provided was huge. I got to learn about so many new places and honestly, just share joy.
2. My reach increased. Because I was doing things that I love and vibing EXTREMELY high for roughly five weeks, that drew attention. I was on the news in Little Rock, on the radio in Buenos Aires, and somehow made viral on TikTok, even though I didn’t have an account. The thing is, when we are producing that much internal positivity, the rest of the world picks up on it somehow.
3. My outreach from potential clients increased. People started coming out of the woodwork to talk to me about coaching. People I hadn’t talked to in years, or maybe even never talked to, started contacting me. That’s not coincidence.
“Fun is following me everywhere.”
4. My friend count increased. I have so many new numbers and am currently keeping in touch with people in MANY countries (admittedly, something I am good at anyway). As an adult, it’s not all that easy to make new friends. However, during the WC, I made several.
5. My fall plans increased. Being asked to speak on main stages, run cohorts for team group burnout prevention, and be on podcasts are now all things that have been added to my to-do list.
6. My love increased. At times, I felt like I was going to have a heart attack (especially during the Argentina games) because of how connected I felt not only to the people I was with, but how I actually felt a love explosion. I’ve never had anything like that happen before – but I was overtaken with joy, as you’ll be able to see in the news clip below.
The Scottish put cones on statues as a sign of endearment. I happened to catch this coning live - and it was incredible!
7. My web stats increased. Like, massively. Again, this is just a reflection of what was happening in my real life. Remember – I was just going to soccer games all day. Yet the energy extended elsewhere.
8. My fun factor increased. I’m currently writing this from a coffee shop where I’ve been sitting outside for at least 4 hours writing and listening to a band of VERY AMAZING Berklee College of Music kids who’ve also been playing for as long as I have been writing. They got here about 5 minutes after I sat down. And are another indicator to me that the fun is following me everywhere.
9. My overall health increased. I’ve gone to the gym consistently (and tried new things), eaten better, gotten stronger, have more energy, and can’t wait to live my next day. That sounds pretty positive, after I type it all out.
And #10, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for all of these things that truly happened in the background while I was glued to a TV. I coach the way I coach because it works – that when I focus on what actually floats my boat, everything else falls into place without me even trying.
So thank you, World Cup, for showing up in my life exactly at the right time, and for allowing all of these other things to just show up as a byproduct. It truly was so unexpected – but as I always say – the best things in life always are.
What a month…
